Celebrate America 250: Create an Antique for Future Generations
Instructor: Nancy Judd

Saturday, June 6, 1:00–3:30 pm
Studio 203, Brannon Building
WVSDB Campus, Romney, WV
Fee: $30 per object
Well-known local artist and teacher Nancy Judd is inviting the public to celebrate America 250 by creating an antique for future generations.
Participants will need to bring a smallish object — wooden or metal — pre-painted with a flat paint in black, red, or mustard color. Nancy will provide paint, patterns, designs, brushes, and other materials for the decorations.
The decoration will include the dates 1776–2026.
No particular artistic talent is required — just a desire to have some fun. Families are welcome to participate, and family members may bring their own object to decorate.
The Magic of Tie-Dyeing
Instructor: Michael Blake

Sunday, June 7, 2:00–5:00 pm
Studio 203, Brannon Building
WVSDB Campus, Romney, WV
Fee: $45 for an adult, with one child included free. Each additional child is $25.
On Sunday, June 7, the Arts Council is offering something a little different — a class in the art of tie-dyeing.
Michael Blake will teach beginners about the history of tie-dyeing, the art of color mixing, how to create a design for a t-shirt, and how to apply the design.
Participants will need to order their t-shirts by size ahead of time. These will be 100% cotton.
For more about Michael and his art, visit
Michael Blake on Facebook.
Advanced classes will be offered at a later date.
Everything You Need or Want to Know About Artists’ Paint Brushes
Instructor: Nancy Judd
Sunday, June 14, 1:00–4:00 pm
Studio 203, Brannon Building
WVSDB Campus, Romney, WV
Fee: $20 per participant
Another class being offered will cover how to use all of those wonderful and mysterious paint brushes that artists collect.
Local artist Nancy Judd will teach “Everything you need or want to know about artists’ paint brushes — or didn’t know that you needed to know.”
She will cover types of brushes, brush strokes, which brush is best for which job, and caring for brushes.
Artists will bring their own art supplies — brushes, paints, paper or canvas — in watercolor, oil, or acrylic media.
This class is best suited to those, of all ages, who have some experience and their own supplies, and who would like to know more about their brushes. The Arts Council will be offering classes geared more toward beginners very soon.

Plein Air Classes in May
Great fun was had at two plein air classes in May. One was at Marion Mich’s Wineberry Garden in Romney, and the other was at Chris Madden’s Rushing River Studio near Augusta.
At Marion’s, artists enjoyed the gardens and a beautiful opportunity to work outdoors.
At Chris’s, while it was a bit drippy outside to say the least, participants enjoyed working in his studio and learning about oil painting and more.
