Hampshire County is home to artists working in oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, photography, clay, wood, glass, fiber and many other forms. HCAC creates opportunities for artists to exhibit, learn, connect and share their work with the community.
2027 Spring Fine Arts Show

HCAC’s Spring Fine Arts Show is one of our signature opportunities to celebrate visual artists and share their work with the public. The 2027 show will be held at the Hampshire County Public Library in Romney, and now is a wonderful time to begin thinking about what you would like to create and exhibit.

Art in Public Places
HCAC partners with local businesses and community organizations to place rotating exhibitions by local and regional artists in public spaces throughout Hampshire County.

Visit the Hampshire County Public Library to see this seasonal exhibition featuring scary monsters and other creepy stuff — just in time for autumn and Halloween.
The Painting Ladies — Mixed Media Paintings
FNB Bank, Romney • October 16 through December 2, 2026
Beginning October 16, FNB Bank in Romney will host an exhibition of mixed media paintings by The Painting Ladies.
Keep Creating
October Creative Challenge: Inktober
Looking for a reason to draw more this month? Inktober is an annual creative challenge built around daily prompts designed to encourage artists to draw and create consistently throughout October.
You do not have to limit yourself to ink. Use the prompts as inspiration for pencil, watercolor, mixed media or whatever medium helps you keep making art.
Classes & Workshops
HCAC offers classes and workshops that help artists develop skills, explore new media and learn from experienced regional instructors.
October 10: Oil Painting with Chris Madden
Join artist Chris Madden for a four-hour oil painting class at Rushing River Studio. Bring your favorite paints, brushes and other painting supplies. If the weather cooperates, participants will also have an opportunity to paint en plein air.

November 10: Bits and Pieces of the Landscape
Instructor Kristen Colebank will deconstruct the landscape into familiar elements — including skies, grassy areas, trees, stone and brickwork — and provide tips and strategies for drawing and painting them in watercolor.

Plein Air
We periodically gather outdoors to paint and draw together in some of Hampshire County’s beautiful landscapes and gardens.
Some plein air sessions may be planned at the last minute when the weather looks especially good. If you would like to be notified, email

Interested in joining others to create art in our studio? Artists periodically gather to paint and work on individual projects in a relaxed, informal setting.
