Fiber Arts

Fiber arts connect creativity, craftsmanship and tradition through work made by hand.

HCAC celebrates the many forms of fiber art practiced in Hampshire County and beyond — including crochet, knitting, weaving, spinning, quilting, embroidery and other textile arts. Through workshops, demonstrations and opportunities to create together, we hope to preserve traditional skills while encouraging new ideas and contemporary approaches.

Tradition, Skill & Creativity

Fiber arts are both practical and expressive. A crocheted cloth, woven textile, quilt, knitted garment or embroidered piece can carry technique, memory, design and local tradition from one generation to the next. HCAC wants to provide opportunities for experienced makers to share those skills — and for new makers to discover them.

Explore Fiber Arts

Fiber arts can include many techniques and traditions. Future HCAC workshops and gatherings may explore areas such as:

  • Crochet
  • Knitting
  • Weaving
  • Spinning
  • Quilting
  • Embroidery
  • Textile embellishment
  • Traditional & heritage handwork

What Would You Like to Learn — or Teach?

HCAC is interested in hearing from both learners and makers. If there is a fiber-arts technique you would like to learn, tell us. If you have a skill you would enjoy sharing with others, we would love to hear from you too.

Create Together

Sometimes the best way to keep a handcraft alive is simply to sit together and work. HCAC periodically offers informal studio opportunities where artists and makers can bring projects, share ideas and enjoy creating alongside others.
